Yessenia has always had a passion for immigration law. She is a daughter of immigrant parents who came to the United States from Mexico in search of a better life. She witnessed first-hand how her parents navigated the complex and often stressful immigration system. During her time as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, she had the privilege of volunteering at the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, supporting immigrants seeking asylum. After graduating from UC Berkeley, she worked as an immigration paralegal for six years for the Law Office of Robert Lewis (the predecessor firm to Fuerza), on a variety of cases, including family-sponsored immigration, inadmissibility waivers, consular processing, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and asylum.
After working as an immigration paralegal, she went to law school and graduated from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, (formerly UC Hastings School of Law) in 2021, with honors. Now as an immigration attorney, she has had the opportunity to work with immigrant clients firsthand. She speaks Spanish fluently and, as a daughter of immigrants, understands the importance of having representation from an attorney that you can trust and that also understands the struggles of the immigrant community.
